THE WAR ROUTE
We approach by ski, until we're 1 hour (by car) away from Venice…
This ski tour explores remnants of World War I: The route will take us along the former Dolomite Front, around the Col di Lana, the so-called Blood Mountain, which is a symbol of the First World War. Nevertheless, the ski tour has an optimistic feel to it because visitors to this magnificent mountain world can recognize how important peace is.
During this tour, we will encounter defensive positions, fortified caves, and trenches built by the Austro-Hungarian, German, and Italian soldiers during World War I in their efforts to subdue the enemy and survive at high altitudes.
The trip takes us through the fascinating landscape of the Dolomites, through the zones of the Arabba, Alta Badia, Cortina, Lagazuoi, 5 Torri, and Passo Giau and past such famous summits as the Civetta, Pelmo, Cinque Torri, Tofana, Lagazuoi, Conturines, Settsass, Sassongher, Sella, and Marmolata.
The downhill trip from Lagazuoi to Armentarola and the longest slope of the Dolomites from the Punta Rocca via the Marmolata Glacier to Malga Ciapela are spectacular.
The Mountain Infantry Ski Tour is a day-long outing for the whole family. Not only skiers, but also snowboarders will find it to be a special highlight of their winter vacation.
