HIKING SUGGESTIONS ALPE DI SIUSI / DOLOMITES
The high-altitude plateau and the Seiser Alm / Alpe di Siusi, part of the Italian Dolomites, offer a wide range of hiking trails and walking paths for young and old, alike.
The High-Altitude Plateau
Suitable for sightseeing tours along the area's fortresses and castles (Trostburg, Prösels Castle, the Hauenstein Ruins, etc.). You can follow the trail of the famed ballad-singer Oswald von Wolkenstein.
These easy hikes or strolls will take you through the beautiful landscape of the high-altitude plateau – which are especially appealing in the autumn (when you can take part in the local custom of "Törggelen") and in the spring. More information about Seiser Alm / Alpe di Siusi.
Experience Local Customs & Traditions – on hikes / strolls to St. Oswald (the home of Norbert Rier – one of the members of the renowned "Kastelruther Spatzen") and St. Vigil. These districts of Kastelruth/Castelrotto are also famous for their quaint custom of autumn "Törggelen." All along the beautiful hiking routes, you'll find picturesque old farmsteads, watermills, and informal refreshment stops ("Buschenschanken"). In the latter, you can stop for a hearty snack of delicious rustic specialties including such homemade products as sausages and meat dishes, dumplings, and especially chestnuts and the real highlight – New Wine.
The Völser Weiher / Lago di Fiè, a majestic Alpine lake nestled at the foot of the Schlern/Sciliar, is another must-see! This bathing lake is a charming get-away where you can relax and have fun… But if you also want to hike a little, you're welcome to trek on up to the Tuff Alm. The altitude differential is not remarkable, but the breathtakingly beautiful view it affords of the surrounding region – reaching to the distant mountaintops of Austria – has got to be seen to be believed… In between, there's Lake Huber, where you can fish or just take a stroll along the shore.
Kastelruth/Castelrotto:
In Kastelruth/Castelrotto, you'll find a myriad of footpaths and hiking trails, a great many of which are suitable for families with small children and baby buggies.
To Marinzen, which locals know as the ski slope on which the world-famous skiers Denise Karbon and Peter Fill began their careers. In the summertime, however, it's an inviting destination for hikes and easy strolls. If you like walking uphill, you should take the hiking trail through the Kastelruth/Castelrotto Meadows to the forest and up onto the Marinzen. Families and "pleasure hikers" who are guests of our hotel are welcome to ride the aerial lift free of charge. The mountain station is the starting point for numerous short and long hikes. Additionally, your children will love the little children's recreational area, including a playground and a mini-zoo… More Information about the Dolomites and the Italian Alps

St. Michael, towards the Gröden/Gardena Valley, features great walkways through verdant farmland and meadows all the way up to the Bühlen Woods (ideal for jogging or bicycling, too) and a small lake.
From there, you can also hike to Tagusens/Tagusa and Tisens/Tisana until you return to Kastelruth/Castelrotto – all the while enjoying a marvelous view down into the Eisack/Isarco Valley…
In Telfen, too, it's possible to undertake great walks into the Laranz Woods (ideal for jogging, too). And what better way to cool off afterwards than to take a dip in the public outdoor swimming pool… otherwise just enjoy the pools & spa of our 4 star luxury boutique hotel.
The hike above Kastelruth/Castelrotto – staying always in the meadow area along the "Schärer Platzl" and ending up at the Plague Cemetery in St. Valentine – is also quite popular. There, you can hike back to Kastelruth/Castelrotto or continue on to Seis/Siusi. From Seis/Siusi, you can return to Kastelruth/Castelrotto by foot or take the shuttle bus.
